Pair of antique woodworking layout tools. The first is a traditional marking gauge with a round wood body, brass wear plate, and sliding arm with steel scribing pin, designed to mark precise parallel lines for joinery (8-1/2" L x 2-5/8" W x 2-3/4" H). The second is a mortise gauge in rectilinear form, with dual pins for laying out mortises and tenons, and incised maker’s marks along the body (2-3/4" L x 3-1/8" W x 1-5/8" H). Both examples show age and use wear consistent with working tools, with patina and surface marks from use.
